Adult Beginner Karate Classes in Dubai: Your 30x30 Starts Here

Most adults who want to try karate never walk through the door.

Not because they're not interested. Because of one specific fear: showing up to a class where everyone else already knows what they're doing. Standing at the back in a brand-new white belt while a room of brown and black belts moves in unison. Being the person who's half a beat behind on every count.

It's a fair worry. And it's the reason we've added a class that removes it entirely.

Introducing: Shotokan Karate For Beginner Adults

Mondays and Wednesdays, 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM. 60 minutes.

Everyone in the room is starting from the same place. No belts ahead of you. No assumed knowledge. No catching up.

The class covers the foundations properly: stance, balance, how to make a fist, how to punch without wrecking your wrist, the basic blocks, the first kata. We move at the speed of people learning something for the first time, because that's who's there.

Our existing adult classes continue on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00–8:30 PM and Sundays from 1:00–2:30 PM for intermediate and advanced students. When you're ready, you move across. Not before.

The timing is not an accident

The Dubai Fitness Challenge runs from 31 October to 29 November 2026, the 10th edition, under the theme "What's Your 30x30?" The commitment is simple: 30 minutes of physical activity every day for 30 days. Registration is free.

Two 60-minute karate classes a week covers four of your thirty days, with 30 minutes spare on each. More to the point, it gives you something to build the rest of the month around.

Here's the honest case for picking karate over the obvious options. Running and cycling are excellent, and Dubai makes both easy in November. But a lot of people finish the 30 days and stop, because nothing was pulling them back beyond the challenge itself. Karate has a syllabus. There's a next belt, a next kata, a next thing you can't do yet. That structure is what's still there on 1 December.

Who actually turns up to this class

Adults in their late twenties through their fifties. Office workers from Tecom, Media City and Internet City. Parents who've spent two years watching their kids train from the side of the mat and finally decided to get on it. People who tried a gym membership in January and let it lapse by March.

Almost nobody arrives fit. That's fine. The stances build the legs, the kata builds the cardio, and the technique work doesn't care how long it's been since you last exercised.

You also don't need to be flexible. High kicks are not a requirement for starting, and anyone who tells you otherwise has watched too many films.

Who's teaching

Traditional Martial Arts & Fitness has been running in Tecom since 2013. Our Chief Instructor, Sensei Faramarz, is a 6th dan black belt with more than 50 years in Shotokan karate.

That matters for beginners specifically. Someone who has taught for decades knows the difference between a student who needs pushing and a student who needs the technique broken down one more time. Bad first experiences in martial arts usually come from instructors who only know how to do the first one.

Start before January

Everyone intends to start something in January. Most of those intentions arrive alongside a crowded dojo, a busy gym and a flat, grey mood in week three.

Starting now means you walk into January already six weeks in. You'll know the terminology. You'll know where to stand. You'll have a kata.

Classes are Mondays and Wednesdays, 7:00 – 8:00 PM, in Tecom (Barsha Heights).
